Toddler Class Newsletter – March 2013

The children have been enjoying being able to play outside in the warmer weather.  We have been trying to take advantage by giving them plenty of opportunities to enjoy both the front and back yards.  It is fun to see how happy it makes them to be able to play in the sandbox, line up for their turn on the slide, and smell the flowers in the planters.  As we are getting into the spring season, we have also been spending more time watching the squirrels and the birds at the feeder outside our window.  As the weather gets warmer, please remember to put sunscreen on your children, to keep them protected during our outside play time.

The Asian Festival was a success and we are so grateful to everyone who lent us materials from their travels, stopped by to visit and volunteer and in any other way helped to make the festival possible.  The toddlers were in their glory with the face painting, dancing, food samples, and freedom to explore the whole school along with the “big kids.”

Both Belle and I (Rose)  were able to attend the American Montessori Society’ s annual conference in Orlando, Florida over the weekend.  The theme this year was “Sustaining the Light in Every Child,” and we are both feeling inspired and reinvigorated by all of the conferences and keynotes we were able to attend.  We saw speakers talk about everything from creating an ideal environment for toddlers to keeping art ideas in the classroom fresh to the importance of developing “soft skills” in children.  We are happy to be back and able to share all of our new ideas with the children.

One of the songs that the children have been enjoying is “My Dog Rags

I have a dog.
His name is Rags.
He eats so much that his tummy sags,
His ears flip flop
and his tail wig wags.
And when he walks, he goes zig zag.
Flip flop, wig wag, zig zag.
Flip flop, wig wag, zig zag.
He doesn’t have any pedigree

But I love him and he loves me

My dog Rags, he loves to play.
He rolls around in the grass all day.
I whistle. [whistle]

But he doesn’t obey

He always runs the other way.

Flip flop, wig wag, zig zag. Flip flop, wig wag, zig zag.

He doesn’t have any pedigree

But I love him and he loves me

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
